PUSH [ IMDB ]
Without Dakota Fanning, this movie would've easily scored one less star. Her scenes with Nick (Chris Evans) are what made it watchable for me. I felt absolutely nothing for Kira (Camilla Belle), and found myself not caring if she lived or died when the movie obviously thought I should. I really just wanted Cassie (DF) & Nick to make it and continue on with their lives as a sort-of brother-sister duo who found each other when they had no one else.

This post contains a complete list of all of the movie reviews I've posted to date. The list is sorted two ways for ease of use. The first section is sorted by rating (from best to worst), and the second section is sorted alphabetically by title.

For each film, I write a few sentences (as little as possible, really), then give it a star rating of 1-5. There is no zero because I don't think I'll ever watch another film that I hate as much as Very Bad Things (my most hated movie, which I believe deserves whatever the lowest rating on the planet is).

The ratings are very subjective. Something like There Will Be Blood can get a five, while Sex & the City can also get a five. That doesn't mean that I think they're anywhere near the same caliber in terms of quality (AT ALL), it just means that they each do what they intend very, very well. (In my opinion, TWBB is just straight BRILLIANT, while SatC is exactly what I'd expect from a movie that follows the show -- entertaining in its own way.) I decided to do the ratings this way so I wouldn't be stuck giving a whole bunch of movies twos & threes just because they couldn't manage to be as good as the best films I've ever seen in my entire life. There are plenty of things worth watching, it just depends on what kind of mood you're in...

OVER HER DEAD BODY [ IMDB ]
I really like Paul Rudd (like REALLY), and I have nothing against a decent romantic comedy (especially when I’m feeling sad or under the weather), but this movie is definitely not going to make it into my rotation. Paul Rudd’s sweet smile and sensitive guy routine is the only reason I can manage to give it a star at all.

BURN AFTER READING [ IMDB ]
Frank summed it up best when, 15 minutes into the movie, he said, “This feels like one of those movies where everyone is dead by the end.” That may or may not be how it went, but that feeling is so dead-on. It’s awkward and sometimes uncomfortable, but mostly makes you curious enough to keep watching (at least once).

REVOLUTIONARY ROAD [ IMDB ]
Kate and Leo are perfect as a disenchanted, suburban couple in the 50s. They make you hope that they can be their best selves, all while having a gut feeling that they never will.

WALL-E [ IMDB ]
More haunting (and beautifully animated) science fiction film than children’s flick, WALL-E is simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting. The first 40 minutes or so of the movie are completely without speech, and set the viewer up to love and root for the movie’s namesake.

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL [ IMDB ]
This movie surprised me with how funny it is. It’s from the 40 Year Old Virgin/Superbad/Knocked Up family, but has a very different feeling (which is one I can appreciate a bit more). I have a soft spot for Kristen Bell, and she doesn’t disappoint… neither does Jason Segal (who plays the lead & wrote the movie).

THE AIR I BREATHE [ IMDB ]
The movie is broken up into a few different character stories, each based on a character who embodies one of four emotions: Happiness, Sorrow, Pleasure, and Love. The cast is mostly brilliant, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is especially great as Sorrow. Her scenes with Brendan Frasier are some of the best of the film. The film manages an unsettling balance of heartbreaking and hopeful.
